Flyer
During June of last summer I lived in São Paulo, Brasil for a month. While I was there I had the opportunity to film with a handfull of graffiti artists. Since I got back to the states I've been working on editing this video.

Disclaimer

For those of you that received a flyer with two Sunday dates, sorry about that. Please try your best to forget it and believe that what's on this flyer is actually true.

Graffiti functions in societies as a form of communication. It is a way for people who have very little say in that society to obtain a voice. If one looks at the most prolific graffiti movements you see how they all came out of the roughest economic/political/social situations, whether it be 1970's New York or modern-day Brasil.

Graffiti is an example of art that is directly engaged in the social problems surrounding it. Art is out of galleries and in the street. Graffiti can be a way for a young kid with no money to get his name up. Graffiti can be a way of subverting advertising. Whatever the case, graffiti is a way for someone to define the visual space of their surroundings.

Show Info

For the actual exhibition we will be meeting at either location at 8:30 each night. We will be having, but not limited to 1 or 2 showings at the first meeting spot. After the first showing we will form a street dance party for some 20 minutes or so while waiting for other viewers to show up.

After that, we will move on, in caravan form, to other available spaces in the general area. In other words, everything will be in walking distance of the other.
